Top 10 - Vehicles in Video Games

10. Kuribo's Shoe - Super Mario Bros. 3

You know a vehicle is good when it has a little windy handle on the side. This shoe enabled Mario, for one level, to jump on spiky enemies and piranha plants. The idea would carry over into Super Mario World as an ability of Yoshi. Word to the wise; lose the shoe before the end of the level or you won't be able to run and get a star card.

9. Rambi - Donkey Kong Country

This Rhino could take on even the toughest enemies and could plow holes in walls to reveal secrets. While other mounts in the game were quicker and could jump higher, they were also easy targets. Rambi could take it.

8. Snow Speeder - Shadows of the Empire

A precursor to the excellent Rogue Squadron series, the Hoth level in Shadows is excellent. Compared with the offerings in the Super Star Wars series the 3D element made it feel like you were actually on Hoth. The rest of the game's vehicle situations were tolerable at best and the wonky Speeder level could be frustrating. But the Snowpeeder handled like a dream.

7. The Black Car - Cruisin World

I know what you're thinking; "Finally an automobile on this list of vehicles". This one is a dream. The car of choice for any one that wants to get first place and see that 64 bit babe with the trophy.

6. Bicycle - Paperboy

You see that bottom right black triangle? That was your world in Paperboy. Before GTA was around this game let you drive around and vandalize the neighbor hood. At the end of each level you could take the bike off some sweet jumps for extra points.

5. INCOM X-Wing Starfighter- Rogue Squadron series

The Rogue Squadron series had a number of excellent ships from the Star Wars universe. having said that, if you want to get the mission done right you'd grab an X-Wing. What type of apocryphal jerk selects a Naboo Starfighter to make his Death Star Run? Highlight the X Wing and hit the C stick to find out why the X Wing is the fighter of choice for Rogue Squadron.

4. PTX 4-a Vital Suit - Lost Planet

If you're going to take over an ice planet invested with giant bugs you better come with more than a machine gun. That's where a Vital Suit, or VS if you prefer, comes in. Wayne's father personally upgraded the PTX 4-A with exclusive abilities, such as a chain saw arm. Get in close to those bugs and fire it up.

3. Mario's Kart

Who saw this one coming? Mario Kart is the most fun you can have with four controllers and four wheels. While the other Karters have some slick rides, if you want to be classy you go with a classic. Don't think Mario can finish #1? Give the paddle to me and stow the blue shells and see what happens.

2. Arwing - Starfox series

Let's face facts. 2d Vehicles meant one thing; left to right. Star Fox changed all that. The first time players sat down and played Starfox they were blown away. That's right, the above image was as cutting age as it got back then. The subsequent Starfox 64 was the best in the series and many await a true successor to that game.

1. Pickup Truck - Rush 2 Extreme Racing

If you have never played this game and it's excellent stunt track mode no doubt you're confused. A truck? Yes. The game had a number of fast and exotic cars, but they weren't good for stunts. They would explode easily. Not the truck. You could ram the truck into the corner of a ramp and it would flip around endlessly without being destroyed, assuring you the high score. If this game ever comes out on the Virtual Console, pick it up. Funnest vehicle around!
